Commodore 2005 - 2006 The year 2005 found our Club split in dissension and anger. The Club had lost it’s friendliness and participation. Changes were initiated without the Membership’s consent or approval. The Staff (Past) Commodores became concerned about the Club’s character deterioration. After a controversial Bylaws revision was submitted and soundly defeated, we met and decided to challenge the 2005 administration. The Membership rallied and supported us. The 2005 administration resigned. Working together, we reinstated the Friday night socials and dinners. We adjusted the dues and many Members rejoined. We successfully defeated nine disgruntled member lawsuits against us. During the course of the past year and a half, we encountered several major repair/equipment replacement needs. This included replacement of the air conditioning/heating ducts in the main hall, a major overhaul of our Boat Parade float, replacing the ice machine, and purchasing a glass washer for the bar. These expenditures totaled over $10,000. The Membership rallied and these expenditures were covered. We had a great Garage Sale fund raiser, other fund-raising events, Burgee Girls fund-raising projects, and many Member monetary donations. Also, our Cross Currents went electronic. We voted in new Bylaws which insure the Club is governed by the Members. We are fiscally sound. We have our friendly atmosphere back, thanks to the Officers, Board and Membership. |
