Commodore 2003 Sue and I joined the LHYC in 1993, we found it to be the perfect social outlet and made new and wonderful friends. During our ten years of membership, I held the office of Fleet Captain Power for two years, Rear Commodore for two years, Vice Commodore for one year and 2003 as Commodore. The year was extremely busy. Club volunteers worked the Jet Jam and IJSBA, that endeavor with other fund raisers such as the Golf Tournament, bake sales, etc., throughout the year enabled the Club to end the year fiscally sound. Many improvements were made to the building and grounds, the club house exterior was repainted, new landscaping, roof repairs, steel work tables in the kitchen, two new freezers and the daily fix it or replace it maintenance were all accomplished within budget. Again thanks to our volunteers and wonderful Burgee Girls. Scholarships were presented to deserving local high school graduates (funded by our annual golf tournament), and other youth programs were supported. A new float for the annual Christmas Parade of Lights was created and constructed by the membership. Our Membership increased by 25 new members (sail and power) all interested in water programs, participating in Club activities and establishing friendships. Socially it was a great year enjoying poker runs, casino nights, golf tournament, several theme dances, Christmas celebration at the Riverside, Friday night dinners, Monday night Bingo and cards, chili cook-off and too much more to mention. The LHYC has gained recognition by the City and other parts of the United States due to our participation in the Christmas Boat Parade of Lights, membership in the Southern California Yachting Association and hosting the Holder 20 National sailing races. None of the above mentioned accomplishments could have been done without the support of the membership, the Board of Directors, Trustees, Committee Chairs and our Burgee Girls. It was a privilege to be Commodore. |
