Commodore 2007

What a year! When Betty and I joined the club in 1985, the thought of being the Commodore some day never entered my mind. Now after being the Commodore for 2007 all of the work and fun of being in the club was well worth the experience. From helping to build our clubhouse to all of the great things the club has done. Even greater are the many friends we have made and all of the hard work of so many members. During my term it has been unbelievable that no one said no to a request for help. Just a great group of people.

The club only had one real problem and that was when we were broken into twice, with some damage to the building and some liquor taken. It only made us think more about security and provided us with a better system to secure our Clubhouse.

On the plus side - Money has been raised to build a caboose to go with our engine. It will be built in 2008. We acquired a new and larger storage shed to store our train and other necessities. We had a Golf Tournament, which raised over $4000 for scholarships. Thanks to a great group of members.

We also had many other special events that helped the Club in many different ways, including Boat Patrols, Poker Runs, Casino Nights, Yard Sale (at the Goettelmann’s raising over $2000), Super Bowl Party, Talent Show, Valentine Party, Bingo/Poker on Monday nights, October fest, Opening Day, Sunday Breakfasts, Cruise to Mexico (with 43 Club Members having a very good time and raising $1000 for the Club).

During the year we joined the Chamber of Commerce, and have been making plans to get back into a long overdue sailing program.

The Burgee Girls did a fantastic job in providing the Club with Friday Night Desserts and many fun and money raising events to support the club.

Again thanks to all of the members that contributed their time and money to make the Lake Havasu Yacht Club a great club and for allowing me to serve as their Commodore.
